TMSCA Tournament, Dec 1st
TMSCA Tournament, Dec 1st
Sign up your students now!
Hi Parents,
This Saturday, 12/1, Beckendorff Junior High is hosting a TMSCA Tournament for Elementary and middle school students. If your child is interested in participating, please sign up at this link: http://www.tmsca-online.com/register. (Read the entire email before signing up please).
Unfortunately, my brother and I will not be able to be there during the tournament due to important prior commitments. Even though we will not be there at the tournament, In the sign up link, for the space marked “Coach’s Name”, please provide my name, “Rakshita Kota”. This will register them as part of the Bonnie Holland Team. If you like to register another child (like your middle school child), that would also be appreciated as it is a fundraiser for the school - but please do not register them as part of BHE!
This tournament is highly recommended as it will prepare the kids for future math/science competitions and will expose them to the Junior High math/science. The students will be representing Bonnie Holland Elementary at the tournament. Furthermore, it is a fun and exciting experience for your child. There will be food, a movie, and many other kids of the same age group to mingle with. It is very memorable and seeing the students come together to cheer for their fellow classmates during the awards ceremony is a touching experience. For the past 2 years, our children have had so much fun participating in this tournament.
TOURNAMENT:
This tournament is open for all middle and elementary school students and is a fundraiser for the Beckendorff Science Olympiad Team. The tournament offers middle and elementary school students the opportunity to measure their skills in Number Sense, Calculator, Math and Science against those of their peers. There are also separate 4th and 5th grade elementary divisions as well.
Prizes are awarded to students placing in the top 10 for each grade level contest (4-8), top 3 teams in each middle school test category, top 2 teams in each elementary test category and top 3 schools in sweepstakes.
REGISTRATION:
If your child is interested in participating, register here: http://www.tmsca-online.com/register.
Each exam is $5 if teams register before Wednesday 11/28/2018. You may email changes until Friday at 12 noon.
Walk-in registration the day of the competition will be $10 per test. No personal checks will be accepted - cash or school checks only.
SCHEDULE:
Schedule of events may be viewed at the following link:- http://www.tmsca-online.com/static/TournamentSched/tourney1.pdf
Please show up early so your child does not miss the test! (it has happened several times before)
When they arrive, they will go to the Beckendorff cafeteria which is where the rest of the students will be. To take the tests, they will be assisted to their testing room (parents are not allowed in the testing room). After their tests are done, they will come back to the cafeteria. The award ceremony will start at 4 PM. Parents can either stay at the school the entire time or drop/pick them.
FOOD:
They will have a concession stand that serves pizza, donuts, candy and other snacks as well as water and soda. Please encourage your students to bring $1 bills.

Meeting#5
Here is what we learned in our fifth meeting 10/24:
Number Sense: Multiplying by 101 trick, Multiplying by 1001 trick, and Multiplying by 15 trick
General Math concept: Slope - We ran a little short on time while explaining this, so when you're doing the homework and extra practice, make sure that you fully understand the material. Use the presentation below and online resources such as Khan Academy. We will go over slope again next class, as it is such an important concept.
